In the year 1830, Our Lady appeared in a vision to Saint Catherine Laboure, instructing her to have a medal struck after the model of the vision. This image is the reverse side of that model. The twelve stars signify the Apostles_?? the Church surrounding Mary and also her crown of Rev 12:1. The bar beneath the cross signifies the world and the foot of the cross.
